May 2020 News

After some months of not being in contact, we wanted to reach out and send you some news. Our last performance was on December 29, 2019 at the 80th St Residence in Manhattan. This particular concert welcomed the newest member of our ensemble. Richard Paratley has replaced Cecilia as flutist. Cecilia has remained as treasurer and board member of L’Amore. Richard is an excellent arranger and has already introduced two of his arrangements to the group. The residents of 80th St. were happy to have us play for them. This is a place where we feel our presence is especially appreciated as many of those in the audience have varying degrees of dementia. That seems a world away at the moment, during these unprecedented times with the corona virus.

Of course, we have not been able to rehearse or perform in many weeks. But we did want to share with you some of the ideas we are pursuing for 2020 and beyond:

— Until we can resume live performances, we are in the process of having our last Lincoln Center concert video completed so we can share music with you and with our residences. We will also be assembling recordings from our past performances to create a CD we can share.

— Simeon is hard at work on several new arrangements. He just finished arranging a wonderful rumba by Arthur Benjamin that we anticipate will be one of our future “greatest hits”!

— All of us are practicing individually so we will be ready to “go” again when it is safe to do so.

The arts in general, due to their nature of personal contact, have been drastically impacted, and yet they are so important to our quality of life that we wonder what the future will bring.
